This survey is being conducted on behalf of the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI). We are seeking your input to help inform the roadmapping workshop scheduled for May 10–11, 2016 in Detroit, MI.

About this Survey
IACMI is currently in the second phase of a technology roadmapping process aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of low-cost, energy-efficient manufacturing technologies for advanced polymer composites in vehicles, wind turbines, and compressed gas storage applications. IACMI is focused on achieving three main technical targets:
 
  • Reduce production cost of carbon-fiber reinforced composites by >25% in 5 years on a path to >50% in 10 years.
  • Demonstrate technologies that reduce embodied energy and GHG emissions of carbon fiber by 50% in 5 years on a path to 75% reduction in 10 years.
  • Demonstrate technologies for >80% recyclability or reuse of fiber-reinforced composites in 5 years on a path to >95% in 10 years.

The workshop on May 10–11, 2016 will be organized into the following subtopics that cut across IACMI’s major application areas:
  • Multi-Material Joining
  • Crashworthiness and Repair
  • Standardization and Certification
  • Large-Scale Composite Manufacturing: Automotive, Wind, CGS

This survey will ask you to identify the technical barriers that must be overcome to achieve IACMI’s program goals, research and development activities that address those barriers, and your views on how IACMI can deliver value to its members.
